Jamie Risbourg is a New Orleans native. She studied painting and art history at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Inspired by strong Louisiana women, she is dedicated to portraying women who are confident highlighting strength in femininity and sensuality. Her latest series “Lady Matisse” are small acrylic paintings using absolute efficiency to suggest personality and intention of the subjects showcasing the delicate yet powerful expression of female body language. In addition to acrylic paintings on canvas, Jamie is an accomplished muralist whose work can be seen in schools, church buildings, restaurants and private residences in the Greater New Orleans area as well as the Caribbean island of St. Croix, where she took refuge following Hurricane Katrina. She also has worked in scenic art creating large scale 2-D and 3-D works. “I paint strong women because I want to be a strong woman. With each painting I grow in my own femininity using my art as a tool to peel back my own emotional layers. There is gentleness in every curve that I paint and fearless determination somewhere deeply woven into my canvases. Painting women is a joy. I feel that I can say anything even using subtleties such as a slight shift in weight or the thickness of a line. Expression is what I am after. Strength of personality and a sureness of body language.”
