Rush the stage!<\/em><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nMy 14-year-old Superwoman. Unafraid:<br \/>\nID-checking bouncers, mosh-pit metalheads,<br \/>\nher mother. <em>What\u2019re you gonna tell her?<\/em><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<em>I\u2019m sleeping over your house\u2014duh!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&nbsp;<\/em><br \/>\nAn all-access pass. To my bedroom.<br \/>\nThe demure boy. (A <em>twisted<\/em> sister?)<br \/>\nAs her accomplice I bubbled<br \/>\nlike the second coat of hot pink.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nShivering in shorts, she kissed me<br \/>\n<em>G\u2019night<\/em> beneath the corner streetlight,<br \/>\nmy shadow spilling into hers\u2014our odd shape<br \/>\na tattoo on the asphalt where I imagined<br \/>\nthe skid marks we\u2019d one day leave.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>SUMMER&#8217;S EVE (90&#8217;S GIRL BAND, NYC)&nbsp;<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nWho could\u2019ve guessed a girl clumsy as a blind giraffe<br \/>\non roller skates\u2014the meatiest of the varsity softball team\u2014<br \/>\nwould one day summon, jangling a scuffed tambourine,<br \/>\nthe gaggle of tattooed groupies, their mangy backpacks<br \/>\nstuffed with sanitary napkins for sticking to their bare chests<br \/>\nwhen you finally sang their request: <em>Maxi, Maxi, Maxi Pad<\/em> \u2026<br \/>\nsplattering Pollock-style all those open-mouthed boys<br \/>\nwith a douche spritz\u2014the girl who gave suburbia the slip<br \/>\nnow pounding her dusty footprints into the floorboards<br \/>\nwhere Blondie and The Ramones lashed out their own bitter arias.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nTamika,<br \/>\nwhat would you have carried in your garter had you seen 30?<br \/>\nYour stash? A stiletto? Bells to warn us when you were coming?<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nCBGB\u2019s is gone now too, your old stomping ground<br \/>\na John Varvatos boutique.
