The poor people of Haiti<\/p>\n
cut them down for coal,<\/p>\n
uprooting, deforesting, devastating the green<\/p>\n
for survival.<\/p>\n
Like the politicians uprooting the teaching of our ancestors<\/p>\n
Du sol soyons seuls ma\u00eetres!<\/i><\/p>\n
Their motto: Divide and conquer<\/p>\n
They turn us against each other mentally, physically–<\/p>\n
can\u2019t you see?<\/p>\n
Never built a little avenue for us to earn a decent living.<\/p>\n
Poor Haitians, hungry, dirt poor on dirt streets, bare-footed<\/p>\n
while rich politicians in the white house in Port-au-Prince<\/p>\n
stroll polished marble floors in patent leather shoes.<\/p>\n
After Toussaint LeOvurture’s\u00a0revolution,<\/p>\n
our ancestors motto:<\/p>\n
Through unity we find strength.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re tired of fighting each other–<\/p>\n
tired of killing our brothers and sisters.<\/p>\n
Now we wage war with Mother Nature,<\/p>\n
destroying her seeds, cutting down quenep<\/i>\u00a0branches<\/p>\n
downing\u00a0palm<\/i> trees and breaching the\u00a0almond<\/i>\u00a0bark.<\/p>\n
Heartland,<\/p>\n
Homeland,<\/p>\n
unlike our ancestors,<\/p>\n
we stand on naked hills<\/p>\n
divided and hungry.<\/p>\n
